Irving B. Ackerman
Founder, Ackerman & Ackerman, P.C.1910-1999
At age 5, he spent his days on a Detroit street corner peddling newspapers. By the time he was 19 he was a lawyer.
Irving B. Ackerman graduated from the Detroit College of Law in 1930 and was permitted to join the Michigan Bar Association upon turning 21 in 1931.
A widely respected expert in the conduct and resolution of state and local condemnation proceedings, Mr. Ackerman was a frequent lecturer on eminent domain and real estate valuation.
Mr. Ackerman aggressively fought local and state governments to ensure that homeowners who were displaced by urban renewal were given fair market value for their property. It was a battle that regularly took him all the way to the Michigan Supreme Court.
